During our outdoor play this week, we have been exploring and investigating weather. (Up to now, we have had lots of different weather - sun, wind and rain and snow is also on the forecast!) Today it was very wet and windy! We used our pin wheels to see how windy it was - we noticed that the pin wheel spun really fast when it was windy and stopped when the wind calmed. This morning the children created their very own rain gauges and in the afternoon we tipped the rain gauges out and measured how much rain had fallen. The children then wanted to find the total of all their rain gauges and we measured 100ml of rain water collected from all of the children's rain gauges. We were curious about clouds and rain, so we looked on the internet and found the water cycle. We talked about how the puddles on the floor are evaporated (we don't see this happening because it is a gas), water droplets make the clouds, the wind moves the clouds and when there are lots of water droplets it rains! The children then carried out their very own rain cloud in a jar experiment. We used a jar, shaving foam and coloured water. The children squirted the coloured water in to the shaving foam (cloud) and watched it fill the cloud and then flow into the water below. Comments are closed.
