The start of this week was an exciting one as we came in to school to find that all of our butterflies had hatched out of their chysalises! After observing them for a day we decided it was time to let them go into the wild. We took them outside on a nice sunny afternoon and set them free. They were kind enough to stay on Miss Reynolds' hand while we all had a good look at them before flying away. We loved seeing that they had hairy bodies, and how colourful their wings were. We will miss them, but we loved watching their metamophasis in our classroom! This half term we have been learning lots about lifecycles! Our key texts have been Little Sunflower, Sunflower House, Little Caterpillar and a selection of non-fiction texts such as From Caterpillar to Butterfly, Frogs, From Seed to Sunflower and Bugs. We have had lots of real-life experiences of lifecycles too. We have watched our caterpillars turn to chrysalises then butterflies, watched our sunflower seeds grow into plants, and our tadpoles are starting to get bigger and grow legs. This afternoon we decided to get our parachute out and play some parachute games. We needed to use lots of skills to do this such as; team work, co-ordination, listening, turn taking and lots of gross motor skills. It was so much fun! We had lots of fun celebrating the coronation of King Charles. We spent the week reading books to learn more about him and the history of the Royal Family and about the Queen's coronation . On Friday, the day before the coronation, we all came dressed as princes and princesses or in red, white and blue. We took part in lots of activities such as making sandwiches, decorating crowns, a coronation themed dough disco, designing a royal outfit and playing with our castle role play. In the afternoon we had a tea party together with FS1. The sun was shining so we decided to have this on our playground. What a brilliant way to take part in such a historic event! Now the weather is warmer we have been very busy planting! First we had to get our planting beds ready by weeding them, turning over the soil and wetting them. Then we planted our seeds and wrote some labels for them using our phonics knowledge. We have planted lots of different vegetables including; carrots, onions, cucumber, radish, peas, pumpkins and beans. Inside we have also planted our sunflower seeds into pots and have been writing a diary about the changes we see. |
