Exploring Materials

12/9/2024

In science this half term we are learning all about materials. We know that objects are made from materials and that some materials are strong and some can break, some are flexible and some are rigid.
We went on a hunt around our area looking for different materials, our challenge was to find objects made out of wood, plastic, metal and glass. We found lots!
We looked closely at the objects and discussed why we thought they were made from that material, we thought about why other materials could not be used.
We all agreed wooden windows would not be useful!

Welcome To The New Class One!

12/9/2024

Welcome to the new Class One!
We are all brand new to year one but are settling in so well. We have done so much already during our first week. We have been exploring our new classroom and having fun accessing the areas. We have been sorting, counting, painting, writing and much more!
Watch us continue to grow through the year, we can't wait to fill our brains with new and exciting things as we move through Class One.

Our Visit To Mapplewell Meadows

8/7/2024

We had the best day today visiting Mapplewell Meadows to meet Deborah who we had written letters to earlier in the term! This is where the bog baby during early Spring and we went to see if it was settling in well there. We walked 1.9 miles each way with our little legs, enjoyed a well deserved ice-pop and then ventured down to the pond and planted bluebells for the Bog Baby to enjoy next year. We looked at the other creatures and wildlife sharing the habitat and even think that we saw a Bog Baby hidding in the water which was very exciting!
We can't wait to go back with our grown ups and sample the amazing cakes at the view cafe.
Thank you for having us Deborah!

Library Visit

8/7/2024

Class one had the best time visiting our local library, we found out about how to become a member, how to join in the summer reading challenge and how a library is organised so that we can find the books we enjoy reading.
We put our new skills to the test in a lirary book hunt. This was our first visit but will definately not be our last!

Super Sewing Skills!

7/7/2024

The children of class one proved how amazing sewers they are, they really are fabulous!
The children carefully designed a pouch and created it sewing around the edge using running stitch.
Take a look at some of our fantastic designs.

Our Trip to Eureka

7/7/2024

We were so excited to experience our first trip in class one, we travelled to Halifax by coach and visited Eureka.
As part of our science and PHSCE topic 'me and my body' we have been learning all about ourselves and got to experience this hands on at Eureka!
We took part in a 'gross lab' lead by a grosologist and learnt all about scabs, bood, snot and sick. It was alot of fun!
We learnt so much and had lots of fun in the process.
Take a look at our blog posts we wrote all about it!

Our Class Assembly

19/4/2024

We have worked really hard and learnt so much so far this year and could't wait to show everyone everything we have achieved.
All of the children were so brave and made all of the adults proud by learning their lines and using big, confident voices so that everyone could hear them.
Well done Class One you are all amazing! Keep up the hard work.

World Book Day Celebrations

8/3/2024

Today we had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day! We all came dressed as a character from our favourite book or out cozy PJ's ready to enjoy a bedtime story.
The day has been filled with sharing stories, learning about authors and illustrators. At the end of the day adults shared their favourite stories and the children enjoyed a hot chocolate and a chocolate buiscuit! Can we do this every week please!?

We Know How To Stay Safe

9/1/2024

As part of our PHSCE topic we have learnt about e-safety and road safety. As part of this we learnt the green cross code, we had fun singing the green cross code song. We will make sure we are always safe when crossing the road!

What's in Your Poo?

20/12/2023

This half term we have been identifying animals and their characteristics. More recently we have been looking at what animals eat and sorting them into herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We now know that carnivores eat only meat, herbivores eat only plants and omnivores eat a mixure of both. We thought about what we are, and looked at the foods a variety of animals ate and which catergory they were in.
Today the children were given 3 'poos' (playdough) from animals from each catergory. we dicected them and discussed if they were herbivores (had only leaves in), carnivores (had only bones in) or omnivores (a bit of both.)
We had so much fun pulling apart poo!
