Celebrating World Book Day

Class 1 had a fabulous time celebrating World Book Day, we followed a recipe to create some Gruffalo crumble which we shared with the parents that attending the reading with your child afternoon. We also designed our own front cover for our class story and created our own bookmarks. We had a super day and just look at our fabulous costumes!

Class One look forward to our weekly library visits. We enjoy sharing books with our peers and the library reading buddies!

Brushing Our Teeth

Class One had a visit from Tommy who demonstarted how to brush our teeth correctly. He spoke to us about the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day and keeping up to our oral hygene. He also gave us all a toothbrush and tooth paste to take home and practice with, we are now tooth brusing experts!

Marvelous Maths

In maths we have been exploring shapes. We have looked closely at 3 dimentional shapes, considering their properties, the 2 dimentional shapes that make up a 3D shape. We have thought carefully about the shapes that we can shack and build with and the ones that we can't, we have printed with the 3D shapes to discover the 2D shapes that make them up as well as grouping them by their different properties. We have had so much fun!

Learning About Hinduism

We had a very special visitor in school today, a hindu preist cam to tell us all about the hindu faith and shared stories form the hindu culture.
We got dressed up, took part in a traditional hindu dance and listened to hindu stories and even role played the Rama and Sita story. It was so much fun!

Class 1's Visit to the Library

Class One put on their walking shoes this week and walked to Roundhouse library. We met the helpful and welcoming staff and learnt about how to get our own library card so that we can borrow upto 10 books! We can't wait to visit again.
We enjoyed sharing stories with our friends and adults and the librarian even read us a story that we enjoyed joinging in with. We have some very excited children to get reading and visit more of the libraries around Barnsley.

Florence Nightingale Came To Visit

Key Stage One were so lucky to be able to welcome Florence Nightingale to visit our school. She told us all about her life and key events from her life time like the crowning of Queen victoria, the start of the victorian era, the invention of the lightbulb and the steam train as well as much more.
We attended Florences nursing school where we cleaned up the hospital in Scutari and nursed injured soldiers back to health. We also learnt about May Secole who was a key person of the time who also nursed soldiers back to health.
We had the best day with Florence and learnt so much about her. 

Odd Socks Day

In Class One we have been celebrating that everyone is different and proudly wore our odd socks in support of antibullying week, check out our odd socks!
We looked at the slogan for this year 'Choose Respect'. We also throught about how we can 'Choose Respect' in our school life and home life.
We enjoyed siging the Andy and his odd socks gang.

Musical Magic

In class 1 we look forward to our weekly music lessons this week we have been performing a well known song 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' as well as adding some musical notes to our song on the glockenspiels, check us out!

Marvellous Maths!

In Class One we are trying super hard to develop our counting skills, we have really blown the teachers socks off this week counting forwars and backwards!
We have been practising counting, recognising numbers in different forms, both as numerals and pictorally, as well as ordering numbers and counting in the areas.
We have been singing counting songs and hunted for numbers in our setting.
​We are working hard and always up for a challenge!
