This week as part of our science topic Identifying and growing plants we have been investigating the different variety of trees that can be found in the UK. We know that there are evergreens and deciduous trees. Evergreens keep their leaves all year round where as deciduous trees loose their leaves over the colder months. We were given the task of identifying trees using their leaves, we looked closely at the shapes and sizes. We then went into our school grounds and looked at the leaves that had fallen from the trees and identified the different trees growing in our school. We were so excited to use our knowledge and discuss our findings with our partners. We have had the best day celebrating World book day 2023 in Key Stage 1! We all love to read and listen to stories and have had a day filled with everything we love. We have dressed as our favourite book characters, shared our favourite stories with our friends and have listened to and enjoyed new stories and adventures. This morning we loved looking at and reading a variety of stories, some brought in by children, some from our school book shelves and we were very excited about looking through 'big books'. We listened to a story with a hidden cover and had to design a new cover for it, we thought carefully about the story and what the cover should include. Some of us brought in a book that we no longer read into school and swapped it for another brought in by our friends in Key Stage 1, we can't wait to read them! During the afternoon it was the adults turn to share their favourite books with us. We even enjoyed a hot chocolate and biscuit as we relaxed and discussed our favourite book of the day. We have had the best day and can not wait to continue to grow our love of reading! |
