Year 4 had a wonderful day at Worsborough Mill. We learnt so much about how the mill works and makes flour and we even saw the huge water wheel in action. As always, we are very proud of our super star children. We learnt about William Morris today and enjoyed discussing a range of his art work and identified repeating patterns and symmetry. This inspired us to explore our patterns and shapes using leaves and flowers that we found in our own woodland. We experimented with different pencils sketching some of our favourite shapes and we will choose which of these to use in our final design. We are really excited to start our new history topic learning about the Romans and their impact on Britain.
We learnt about the Roman army and their soldiers and talked about reasons why they invaded Britain and discussed ideas about why they were successful. The timeline of events was tricky because we had to sort BC and AD times, which was confusing at first, but we worked together and did a great job. We took our science learning outside this week. We learnt about the properties of particles in solids, liquids and gases and explored how those particles behave and move.
Can you tell in which images we are behaving like each one? Excellent discussion and teamwork in our new science topic this week. We sorted items into solids, liquids and gases. Some were pretty straight forwards for us but there were a few that really got us thinking! We loved designing and making our pavilions in DT. We experimented with ways to build stable structures and really enjoyed using our creativity and imagination to clad the walls with a range of paper craft techniques so our designs were interesting and enjoyable spaces.Well done to everyone who took part in our Easter egg design competition. Thank you so much for your hard work and creativity - all the designs were fabulous and I hope you had super fun making them. Our geography skills came into great use today when we had to use grid reference points on a map of our school grounds to locate hidden maths problems.
We worked very well in our teams and used the maps to find the correct grid areas to search. Once we had solved all the number problems together there was even a little treasure to for us to share. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in with our 'rockstar' day on Friday. You are all very cool and looked fab! Keep logging on and practising at home whenever you can: you can still be a rock star without dressing up! We really enjoyed sorting and comparing countries in geography today. We decided on our own groups to sort into based on the information we had. Some ways we organised our data was according to population, land area, main religion followed, borders with oceans, currency. We worked so well together and really enjoyed sharing what we noticed in our discussions.
