We have really loved our clay art project this week!
After rolling our clay out and using the eye cutter shape (kindly designed and made by Mr Simpson), we carefully pressed in where our beautiful glass cabochon eyes would be on our finished sculptures. Then, we got busy cutting, rolling and shaping horns, spikes, scales and all kind of wonderful details, using slip and scoring to attach them to our eye shapes. Finally, we carefully used the clay tools and our fingers to blend all of the edges so our designs were firmly joined together. We cannot wait to paint them! We loved finding out about soil in science this week. We carefully observed the appearance, texture and moisture content of different soil samples. We were really interested to learn about the essential role soil plays in keeping living things alive on Earth and how long it takes to produce even a tiny bit of new soil. |
