In class 4 we have been rather busy making and eating in our DT sessions. We have learnt about various fruits and vegetables, and when, where and why they are grown in different seasons and the relationship between colour and health benefits. Take a look at what we have created.
In Class 4 we have designed and made a pavilion in DT for an animal to live in. First we mapped out the design we made onto card and designated areas for the animals to live in. Then we got to work on the sides of the pavilion sticking together lollypop sticks. We tried different ways to stick these together and then used the glue gun to make the frame stick securely. For each of the three sides, we made different designs using different techniques such as paper folding, cutting shapes, weaving and using art straws and match sticks for detail. We later assembled our pavilions and added a roof for the enclosure to finish these off. Take a look at our designs, we worked really hard on these in Spring term. Wonderful reading from these super stars. We really enjoyed learning this famous Christmas poem by Clement Clark Moore which was written in 1882 but is still enjoyed by so many today. Today has been Odd Socks Day. Odd socks symbolise that we are all different and that children should be themselves, accepting of one another and celebrate difference. The day is meant to remind us to think about our words before we say them and their effects on others. Children in class have have come in all kinds of socks to help us remember we are all unique. We have discuss anti- bullying and how bullying can affect people. Children in Class 4 were all able to identify adults they could talk to if they felt they were being bullied and what is classed as bullying behaviour. We will continue with this work over the course of the week.
Thank you all for wearing such cool sock combinations today!😊 In class 4 Mrs Taylor has been sharing her love of reading with everyone! Each week a child has been taking home the reading bear and a bundle of goodies to enjoy when enjoying a good book at home with our loved ones. They then add to our reading journey sharing our favourite parts of the story and telling the class all about it! Everyone can't wait for their turn. Lower Key Stage 2 spent a couple of wonderful days visiting the national coal mining museum, which linked well with our work on rocks, how they are formed and how they are mined. The children were very well behaved and had a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience. As part of our Jubilee celebrations we all got involved in a range of traditional and modern playground games. If you look closely you may see Mr Gledhill under the parachute. As part of our DT unit for this term we tasted and evaluated a range of healthy foods from around the world. In addition to this, we all made bread from scratch. We really enjoyed kneading the dough and shaping our miniature loaves. The bread was soft, fluffy and delicious when we tasted it.
Class 4 joined in with the madness that is Odd Socks Day in support of Respect. Bentley has been showing off some hidden skills in class this week. It turns out that we have a talented sculptor among us. He representation of an Easter Island Head is amazing. Well done Bentley!!
