Before Christmas we were lucky enough to have a class visit from our therapy dog, Remedy. We all enjoyed meeting her.Last week we learned how to brush our teeth correctly because a special visitor came to show us. We know how many times a day and for how long we should brush them. We've also learned about which food and drinks are bad for our teeth and why we need to protect them.We have started to learn about multiplication. We can spot and make equal groups. Today we started to write repeated additions before moving onto using the multiplicatiton symbol. In Music we have been learning how to improvise by putting together different rhythms. We have started to compose by writing down our rhythms. In History we have been learning all about Florence Nightingale and today she visited our school! We learned all about the importance of keeping the hospital clean and how to look after an injured soldier. We also learned about Mary Seacole, another very important figure in nursing. In computing we have started learning about digital photography. We learned which devices can take a photo and that it's really important to ask someone if it's OK to take their photo first. We played photo bingo and used the Ipads to collect photographs of different things in the classroom.
In Autumn 1 we learned all about artist James Rizzi and his fantastic comic style art work. In one collection of work, he was inspired by the New York skyline so we created some of our own skyline pictures with cartoon-like buildings. We loved experimenting with different media to create a range of effects. In Autumn 1 we learned all about Hinduism (Hindu Dharma). This is the first time we've learned about this fascinating religion and we have really enjoyed it. We learned some of the important stories and discovered how Hindus celebrate some of their special times. We made Diya lamps out of clay to celebrate Diwali and flower garlands that might be found at a Hindu wedding. |
