As part of our RE lessons we have been leaning about different celebrations. In PHSCE we have been learning about being a responsible friend. Here we are combining the two by celebrating with our friends.
In DT we have been learning about healthy balanced diets. Today we taste tested some different foods from a variety of food groups then made our own wraps to eat. Delicious!
We are having a fantastic first week back at school and love playing and learning with our new class.
Taste Testing Fruit and VegetablesToday the children explored a range of fruit and vegetables. They first looked at the food whole and used their senses to describe how they looked, felt and smelled. The children then had the chance to try all of the fruit and vegetables.
I was very impressed with class 2 as they were all willing to try new things and some even tried everything we had. Lots of children discovered new fruits and vegetables that they really liked! Strawberries and pineapple were the most popular along with cucumber and peas. Not many people liked the spring onion or avocado though! Have a look through our photos to see our reactions to some of the tasty (or not) fruits and vegetables. Today the children started their new DT topic and explored a range of different fruits and vegetables. We discovered where they grow and at what time of year. The children were super at identifying the fruit and vegetables and were surprised to find out that cucumbers and peppers are both fruit! We also looked at more uncommon types of fruit and vegetables like squash and avocado.
Something very exciting has happened in Key Stage One today! Our caretaker saw a real dragon flying over our school and saw it head into the woodland area. The children in key stage one went to investigate as soon as they found out and to our surprise there was a dragon egg! We were a little worried at first, as we have been learning about dragons and know that they can breathe fire. We agreed though that the dragon must have left it there to keep it safe and it wouldn't come back until the egg had hatched. All of the children were really careful around the dragon egg and knew not to touch it.
We hope the dragon comes back soon and brings another egg! This term in art we are focusing on colour and are looking closely at the artist Pollock.
The children have explored the colour wheel and have had a go at mixing colours, discovering which secondary colours can be made by mixing the different primary colours. Yesterday we had a very special visitor in Key Stage 1. Emma from Compass Be came to speak to the children about their feelings/emotions and did lots of work about how our actions, and those of others, can affect other people's emotions as well as our own.
The children all listened very well and were excellent at identifying emotions and the different emotions we might feel in a range of circumstances. Everyone joined in really well with the discussions and were very respectful towards each other. As part of our science topic for this term the children have been exploring the seasons and what changes can be seen from one season to the next. Yesterday we went for a walk in our woodland area and looked closely at the changes in season, as winter turns into spring. The children all commented on the flowers and trees that are now blossoming and full of life.
Ask us about our woodland walk and what we discovered. |
