World Book Day

7/3/2025

This World Book Day we had a great time dressing up as some of our favourite characters or in our pyjamas. Our morning children had  a go at making up their own story based on our book of the week called Jack and the Beanstalk. We changed the characters and some of the story to make up our own called Jacob, Lucy and the Sausage Beanstalk in Space. Jacob and Lucy lived with their mummy, daddy and a chicken called Spiderwoman in a caravan. Their magic beans grew a sausage beanstalk which they climbed in to space! There was a sad alien who had no friends and only one shoe. Jacob and Lucy became his friends and helped him find his lost shoes. They all lived happily ever after in the end. I wonder what crazy stories you could come up with at home?
To match our story we had a go at planting our own beans. Who knows, they might even grow our own magic beanstalks!

We also read some of our favourite stories from home.

Marvellous Maths

7/3/2025

Our afternoon children have been learning all about the number 1. This week we used our knowledge to help us make Number 1's special flapjack recipe. We needed 1 spoon, 1 bowl and 1 bun case. We had to put in 1 spoon of oats, 1 spoon of butter and 1 spoon of honey and mix it up. We did a fantastic job of making our own flapjack, it was yummy!

Garden Birds

28/2/2025

We have been really interested in garden birds recently. We have looked at blackbirds, sparrows, robins, magpies, pigeons and goldfinches and listened to their songs. We have been bird watching to see which birds visit the nursery garden. We even made bird food to attract more birds to out garden.

The Gingerbread Man

28/2/2025

Our book of the week has been The Gingerbread Man. We have been learning how to join in with a story using repeated words and how to use props to help us retell the story. At the end of the week we had a go at baking our own gingerbread men - thankfully we didn't have to run after ours!

P.E

28/2/2025

This term in PE Mr Gornor has been teaching us about dancing. We have used our bodies to move in different ways to look like different things such as robots, tigers and spinning tops. We have been working on our balance and coordination skills as well as our memories trying to remember dance moves in order.

Marvellous Maths

28/2/2025

As part of our maths learning we have been looking at different number shapes and numerals. We been introduced to Numberblocks 1,2,3,4 and 5. We all love the Numberblocks and have been having a go at drawing them by ourselves in provision time. We have also loved the story of Pete the Cat and have been using it to help us with our counting skills, counting from 1 to 4 and back again.

Lunar New Year

28/2/2025

We have been looking at how some people celebrate the Lunar New Year. We have tried our hand at lantern making to practise our scissor skills and have been trying to write some Chinese numbers to work on our fine motor skills. We watched some Chinese lion dances and had a go at learning a dance ourselves. We loved tasting different food such as rice, noodles, prawn crackers, spring rolls and sweet chilli sauce.

The Three Little Pigs

28/2/2025

Recently we have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have used story spoons, puppets and props to help us re-tell the story. We have been trying hard to remember the repeated language such as ‘Little pig, little pig let me in!’ and ‘I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!’
We have had a go at making our own houses on the creative table and in the construction area.

Exploring the snow!

19/11/2024

The children came into Nursery very excited this morning after seeing lots of snow on the ground so we decided to get wrapped up warm, put on our wetsuits and wellies and head into the woodland area to explore. The children spoke about how cold the snow was and likened the colour to some of the walls and the big board in nursery. Some children decided to lay in the snow and create snow angels whilst others enjoyed throwing the snow into the air and watching as it sprinkled down over them. Some children even created a snowman by rolling the snow and carefully balancing the balls on top of each other. One child decided the snowman needed a hat and found a cone to use for this, whilst another found some sticks for his arms.
One little girl chose to use bowls as molds and created lots of snow cake for her friends and later opened an 'ice cream' shop. The children used their imaginations wonderfully this morning.
What a lovely morning we had exploring the snow!

Skills for Writing

8/11/2024

This week we have been engaging in lots of experiences that help to develop our fine motors skills so we can be fantastic writers. We have been using our thumb and finger to pinch, pick up, push and hold objects. We have been pinching glitter to help us make firework pictures, picking up and pushing pasta to make hedgehogs in the playdough and threading pasta on pipe cleaners which also develops or hand-eye co-ordination.
