Circuits and Conductors

25/1/2023

Picture
In science, we have started to learn about circuits and conductors. To refresh our memories of circuits and their components, the children were given the challenge of creating different circuits from picture cards. They had to work out what components were needed to build the circuits. The children also noticed that we were S.T.A.R.S throughout the investigation as they were resilient (those crocodile clips can be pesky to open!) and supportive of each other's ideas. Well done class 7!

Please Practise!

Hi Class 7. Mr Lennon, our brass teacher, has asked me to share this link with you. He would love it if you could practise at home.

Geography

13/1/2023

In Geography this week, we have been learning about towns and cities in the UK. We used an atlas to find important towns and cities and then, as a team, we worked out where to label these on our own maps. Some of them were a bit tricky!

This amazing young lady received Learner of the Week award for her incredible attitude and effort towards maths where she has been striving to get onto the hardest of challenges. Not only has she been successful but she has been able to complete them successfully. Keep it up!

He's Behind You!

5/1/2023

In Year 5, we were incredibly lucky to visit Theatre Royal Wakefield before we broke up for Christmas and what a treat it was! We were able to see the Panto - Dick Whittington and the children and staff had the best time. For some of the children in Year 5, it was the first time they had ever experienced a pantomime and the joy of being in an actual theatre. The children could not believe their eyes when we entered.

The children thoroughly enjoyed it and sung, clapped and booed their way  throughout the performance. We  even received a treat in the interval (ice cream or ice lolly). We all had the best morning out which was made even better when the ushers asked to speak me (Mrs Gollick) to say how excellently behaved the Year 5 children of Athersley South were. All of the teachers were incredibly proud of how the children conducted themselves.

This would not have been possible, if not for the generous and kind donation from Roz and her husband. We can't thank you enough for the experience, we really did have the best morning.
