In Music, we have started to learn and perform the song: Home is Where the Heart is. This is a country song with a simple and catchy melody. The children learned that the texture of the song is quite thick with many different layers of instruments being played and vocals. Here is a little snippet of the children performing for the song for the first time. In Art, we have been making cross curricular links between our history unit - Prehistoric Britain. We have learned that people living in the stone age used to draw on the walls of caves to tell their stories. As paint had not been invented, people in prehistory obtained colour from naturally occurring items such as fruits and vegetables. We had a go at blending some vegetables to see if we could experiment making our own prehistoric paints. In Maths today, Year enjoyed exploring parts and wholes with strips of paper and coloured cubes. The children were able to create different unit fractions and understood how many parts made the whole. They used a range of vocabulary in their discussions and reasoned using stem sentences such as; I know that the whole is 4 and that each part is worth one quarter because each part is split into 4 equal sized parts. Class 5 have gone all our for World Book Day this year! Have a look at some of the fantastic costumes that the children (and staff) have dressed up in. We have celebrated by enjoying reading for pleasure, a World Book Day quiz, listening to a range of different stories with the adults from years 3 and 4 and even had hot chocolate in the afternoon. All of the children in Years 3 and 4 have had an absolutely fabulous time at their Christmas Party today. They enjoyed a wonderful, party food buffet in the dining hall and then went and danced their socks off in the hall, complete with festive games. Take a look at the fun we have had. On Friday, all the children in Years 3 and 4 were treated to a Forest School fire experience. Our dragon eyes are finished! Look at the detail and effort the children have put in to create form and texture. Fantastic work by everyone. Well done class 5. What a day we have had! Today, all of year 3 and 4 visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to add to our knowledge of sculptures that we have been learning about in art. We were lucky enough to experience a Walk, Talk, Make Workshop where we had an artist guide us around some of the sculptures in the park and tell us all about them. We received our own mini sketching pad and at each sculpture, we sketched what we could see from different view points. The children were so enthused and gave some fantastic contributions when discussing the abstract art pieces. We also had mini team activities where we made our own sculptures from leaves and plasticine. We then had time to explore some more of the grounds after lunch and what fun we have had! Take a look at the photos to see how we got on in Class 5. In Art, we have learned how to shape, mould, cut and create texture with clay. We designed our own dragon eyes, linking to the Shang Dynasty. We learned how to score, slip and blend to ensure that our 3D detail stayed where we wanted it. We had plenty of fun and we can't wait to show you our finished products! |
