Our dragon eyes are finished! Look at the detail and effort the children have put in to create form and texture. Fantastic work by everyone. Well done class 5.

What a day we have had! Today, all of year 3 and 4 visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to add to our knowledge of sculptures that we have been learning about in art. We were lucky enough to experience a Walk, Talk, Make Workshop where we had an artist guide us around some of the sculptures in the park and tell us all about them. We received our own mini sketching pad and at each sculpture, we sketched what we could see from different view points. The children were so enthused and gave some fantastic contributions when discussing the abstract art pieces. We also had mini team activities where we made our own sculptures from leaves and plasticine. We then had time to explore some more of the grounds after lunch and what fun we have had! Take a look at the photos to see how we got on in Class 5. In Art, we have learned how to shape, mould, cut and create texture with clay. We designed our own dragon eyes, linking to the Shang Dynasty. We learned how to score, slip and blend to ensure that our 3D detail stayed where we wanted it. We had plenty of fun and we can't wait to show you our finished products! In Science, we have been learning about all things rock related. We have learned that there are three different types of rock; Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic. We have also learned that Mrs Gollick LOVES rocks and fossils and has quite the growing collection!
In today's lesson we explored our school grounds and collect many different types of rock. With these and our rock collection in school, we explored how to sort and group the rocks based on their appearance. Some of us decided to go with colour, others by texture. In art, we have been exploring sculpture and form. Today we used clay to link to our History work of Ancient Civilisations and made clay tablets where we etched our name in Hieroglyphics. Before we got onto that, we made sure we knew how to manipulate the clay by rolling, squeezing, pinching and smoothing. We had lots of fun and made some wonderful tablets. Miss Jewkes and Mrs Gollick are pleased to say that all of Class 5 have settled wonderfully back into school life and routines. They are trying hard to show what they can do and developing their behaviours for learning. Friendships are being established and the class are trying hard to present their work neatly. Here are some of the children in class developing their writing skills by building sentences. We had a fabulous day out at Worsbrough Mill. We learnt about flour and how it is made before taking a long walk around the reservoir. We saw dragonflies, crawfish and ducks! It was so much fun. Have a look at our delicious tarts! We had so much fun making and eating them. We had so much fun making fruit kebabs and eating them as part of our DT topic. As part of our persuasive writing unit, the children created mini radio adverts for a theme park or zoo. We used rhetorical questions, exaggeration and emotive language to persuade someone to visit! |
