We Know How To Stay Safe

9/1/2024

As part of our PHSCE topic we have learnt about e-safety and road safety. As part of this we learnt the green cross code, we had fun singing the green cross code song. We will make sure we are always safe when crossing the road!

What's in Your Poo?

20/12/2023

This half term we have been identifying animals and their characteristics. More recently we have been looking at what animals eat and sorting them into herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We now know that carnivores eat only meat, herbivores eat only plants and omnivores eat a mixure of both. We thought about what we are, and looked at the foods a variety of animals ate and which catergory they were in.
Today the children were given 3 'poos' (playdough) from animals from each catergory. we dicected them and discussed if they were herbivores (had only leaves in), carnivores (had only bones in) or omnivores (a bit of both.)
We had so much fun pulling apart poo!

The Christmas Concert

20/12/2023

KS1 have been working their socks off over the last few months learning lines and songs words and we knocked everyone's socks off with our AMAZING performance! We danced and sang our hearts out and had so much fun doing it.

Festive Jumper Day

15/12/2023

To raise money for Barnsley Hospice the children were invited to come to school in festive clothes or non school uniform. We had a lot of fun and it has definately got us in the festive mood!
Through the day we then designed our own christmas jumpers.

Wonderful Writers!

8/12/2023

Look how far we have come from September!

We have stripped writing back in Year 1 and started by writing letters on a line, then words and then sentences on a line including capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. This week we have been holding a sentence as a class and then creating our own. We are so proud of how far we have come. Keep yours eyes peeled for updates on our 'wonderful Writing!'

Marvellous Maths

8/12/2023

In Class 1 we are becoming quite the mathmaticians! We have been working hard to develop our number knowledge and have been making and breaking the number 5 with the support of a part whole model. Just look at some of our amazing number sentences!

Odd Socks Day

14/11/2023

Picture
At Athersley South Primary School we are all ambasadors for kind words and keeping each other safe and happy. As part of anti-bullying week we all took part in odd socks day. We wore odd socks to show that we are determind to stamp out bullying and are working hard to spread kindness and happiness instead. This years moto is 'make a noise!' We all enjoyed danicing and singing along to the song and shared who we could 'make a noise to' if someone was being unkind to us.

Celebrating Our Hard Work

14/11/2023

This week in class 1 we have been developing our understanding of numbers and looking at the biggest and smallest numbers in the group. We have also been using symbols to show more than >, less than < or equal to = and using them to create a number sentence.
Oscar has been practising this independently in our provision areas using the stem sentence '___is greater than ____', ' ___ is less than___' or '____ is equal to ____'. He proudly went to show his work to Mrs Sanderson and Mrs Belfield (the maths leader).
We are all very poud of your hard work and perseverance when it comes to your maths work, well done and keep up the hard work!

Making Our School Environment a Better Place

23/10/2023

As part of our PHSCE lessons we have been thinking about the things that we are responsible for and one of theose things is looking after ourselves and our environment.
Today we thought about our classroom environment, we considered the things we liked and the things that we could improve and then we thought about our school environment and things that we could do to improve it.
We thought about the litter that we see everyday on the school grounds.
We put on protective gloves and walked around our school environment and couldn't belive how much we found!
Remember keep our environment clean and animals safe by putting litter in the bin.

My World and Me

29/9/2023

As part of our geography topic 'My World and Me' we have been looking at the variety of features of the earth. We can identify the continents of the world from biggest to smallest (thanks to the continents song that we love to sing!)
We are also learning about the differences in climate of different countries and how this relates to their location on the globe. We can identify and label the equator and the North and South Poles.
We have looked closely at the climate, geographical features and animals that live in the UK and compared these to those of Equador (that sits on the equator.)
We have really enjoyed broadening our knowledge and are enjoying discussing and questioning each other.
