A big thank you to Kerry and her team for visiting our school and sharing lots of information on how to look after our teeth. We did lots of talking and sharing ideas around what we should do to keep our teeth and mouths healthy and clean which included sorting out foods that are healthy and unhealthy. Kerry also shared a story with us about going to the dentist and before they left, they gave each child a pack to take home which included a toothbrush and a two minute timer. The start of this week was an exciting one as we came in to school to find that all of our butterflies had hatched out of their chysalises! After observing them for a day we decided it was time to let them go into the wild. We took them outside on a nice sunny afternoon and set them free. They were kind enough to stay on Miss Reynolds' hand while we all had a good look at them before flying away. We loved seeing that they had hairy bodies, and how colourful their wings were. We will miss them, but we loved watching their metamophasis in our classroom! This half term we have been learning lots about lifecycles! Our key texts have been Little Sunflower, Sunflower House, Little Caterpillar and a selection of non-fiction texts such as From Caterpillar to Butterfly, Frogs, From Seed to Sunflower and Bugs. We have had lots of real-life experiences of lifecycles too. We have watched our caterpillars turn to chrysalises then butterflies, watched our sunflower seeds grow into plants, and our tadpoles are starting to get bigger and grow legs. This afternoon we decided to get our parachute out and play some parachute games. We needed to use lots of skills to do this such as; team work, co-ordination, listening, turn taking and lots of gross motor skills. It was so much fun! We had lots of fun celebrating the coronation of King Charles. We spent the week reading books to learn more about him and the history of the Royal Family and about the Queen's coronation . On Friday, the day before the coronation, we all came dressed as princes and princesses or in red, white and blue. We took part in lots of activities such as making sandwiches, decorating crowns, a coronation themed dough disco, designing a royal outfit and playing with our castle role play. In the afternoon we had a tea party together with FS1. The sun was shining so we decided to have this on our playground. What a brilliant way to take part in such a historic event! Now the weather is warmer we have been very busy planting! First we had to get our planting beds ready by weeding them, turning over the soil and wetting them. Then we planted our seeds and wrote some labels for them using our phonics knowledge. We have planted lots of different vegetables including; carrots, onions, cucumber, radish, peas, pumpkins and beans. Inside we have also planted our sunflower seeds into pots and have been writing a diary about the changes we see. Lots of us took part in the egg decorating competition in school, take a look at our egg-citing entries. We also had an end of term treat and made some chocolate nest buns to take home and enjoy, yummy! One of us brought in our bird guides from home to share with our friends. This got us taking about the different birds we had seen. Someone asked what the biggest bird in our country was? So we set off finding out. We discovered it was the white-tailed eagle, with a wingspan of up to 2.4m! Some of us asked how big this was so we decided to measure it out. Our small rulers weren't big enough so we had to borrow some meter rulers from school. Once we had measured it we couldn't believe how long it was! 2 of us could fit in it's wingspan and it was even bigger than Mrs Ayling who we decided was the tallest adult in our class!
Spring Term 2 was a super term in FS2! Lots of us were showing interest in superheroes so we chose some of the Supertato books as our key texts. We were very busy rescuing vegetables, completing reading challenges, making and setting traps to catch the evil pea and designing and making our own Superveg! We then moved on to Superworm, this naturally led to lots of investigating worms, talking about measures and using standard and non-standard measures. We have all had an amazing day today sharing our love of reading. The children and grown-ups looked amazing in their costumes and we all loved talking about our character and stories. This morning some of our children took part in our great book swap and now have an exciting new story to share at home with their loved ones. This afternoon the children listened to lots of fantastic stories while having a lovely hot chocolate and biscuit. |
