Talking Technology

4/10/2024

This week the children have enjoyed exploring the computers and talking about the different technology they have in their homes. Some children then created their own types of technology to use in their play such as laptops, computers and mobile phones.

We had a look at what the different types of technology looked like a long time ago and compared them to what they look like now. We looked at a Victorian telephone (where you had to use both hands, turn a dial and there was no such thing as a touch screen!), we then looked at the first computer made and the first mobile phone from back in the 1970's (one child said it looked like a giant walkie talkie!). After, we compared them to how they look now and how they have changed over the years.

The children then thought about how they would make their own mobile phones, laptops and computers. They worked together to cut card to the shape that they wanted, created marks for buttons, screens and apps and also thought about how to join the mouse to their computers using a hole punch and string.

Measures

24/9/2024

In our Maths sessions this week we have been deepening our understanding of measures especially knowing how to measure height correctly. Today we have been creating towers and using the correct vocabulary of 'tall', 'short', 'same as' 'taller than' and 'shorter than' within our sentences when comparing.

Outdoor Role Play

23/9/2024

What an amazing time we have had outside role playing and in our outdoor area.

It all started with the children talking about the places they see and go to with their grown-ups outside of school - shops, petrol station, Mc Donald’s and the car wash. The children then wanted to create their very own car wash so we made a price list, collected the things we needed and set up our shop. The grown-ups modelled lots of questions, phrases and bike parts (tyres, handle bars, peddles, seat, frame) and the children quickly started to use these in their play.

Our First Two Weeks in F2!

13/9/2024

We have loved welcoming the children back after the summer holiday and we are so proud of how well the children are settling into F2.

Over the last two weeks we have been busy making lots of new friendships, working together, developing our independence, exploring all the different areas and learning the routines in our classroom.

We have enjoyed every minute of getting to know the children's interests, experiences and ideas and cannot wait to share more of our fantastic learning.

F2 Sports Day

12/7/2024

Due to the weather changes our Sports Day could not happen on the field and it was a shame that our grown-ups could not come to see us but that didn't stop us from having a sports day. In the afternoon, we popped on our coats and went on to the playground to take part in lots of different races. We had such a good time!

Amazing Animal Visit

8/7/2024

On Monday, we were very lucky to have some extra special visitors come to see us! We have been learning all about animals and minibeasts this half term and the children were so excited to see a variety of animals in our classroom.

The children all used their listening ears and kind hands to hold and stroke lots of different animals. The children were fascinated by Spinderella the Tarantula, Nina the Guinea Pig, Jack the Tortoise and Zena the Millipede! We loved listening to all the amazing information Michala had to share about her very friendly animals.

Teddy Bears Picnic

5/7/2024

A big thank you to all our Parents/Carers who attended our Teddy Bears Breakfast Picnic on Wednesday. It was lovely to see you all having lots of fun sharing stories and being very creative with your child/ren. We hope you all enjoyed it, just as much as we did.

Super Explorers!

27/6/2024

If you go into the woods today...... you're sure to find lots of bugs and minibeasts! The children have been fantastic explorers and bug detectives outside this week. Just look at some of the amazing bugs and minibeasts we have found,,,,

Marvellous Mouths

3/5/2024

We have been learning all about oral health and how to look after our teeth.

We shared our own experiences of going to the Dentist and used our role play area to re-enact these. In our 'Talk Through the Day' sessions we talked about what steps we need to take to brush our teeth properly as well as learning the meaning of some words. For our focus text, we looked at a non-fiction book that shared lots of interesting facts about why we need to brush our teeth, what happens to our teeth, why animals do not use toothbrushes and which animal has the most teeth.... do you know which animal has the most teeth?

The best part of learning how to keep our teeth clean and healthy was the experiments that we carried out! Our first experiment was called 'Plaque Attack'. We did lots of talking around what lots of sugar can do to our teeth and what could happen if we didn't brush our teeth. First, we mixed sugar and water together and nothing happened but then we added plaque (yeast) to water and sugar and we were amazed at what happened!... the plaque grew and grew.

Our second experiment involved eggs, egg shells are like our teeth so we placed white egg shells in different liquids - tea, orange juice, water, fizzy pop, juice and vinegar and left them over night. We predicted that the egg shells would all be okay the next day. The next day came and we were amazed at what had happened! We used an egg that had not been in any liquid to compare the changes - The eggs in the fizzy pop, tea and juice were all stained from brown and even silver! The egg that was in the vinegar stained but had also gone really, really soft, the egg in the orange juice had a coating but the one left in the water was still the same.

We then decided that to make the eggs right again, we needed to give them a brush with toothpaste and a toothbrush. We discussed that it is okay to have some sugar and treats in our diets but it is important that we brush our teeth twice a day and go to the Dentist at least once a year to make sure our teeth stay clean and healthy.

Beep Beep! Road Safety Week

26/4/2024

This week we have been learning all about how to stay safe on and near the roads, using resources from Brake - The Road Safety Charity.

We had lots of fun outside playing 'red light, green light', creating cars and car seats out of our construction resources, using the bikes as cars and electronic traffic lights to create a pelican crossing. During the week inside, we have built our knowledge and vocabulary of road safety through our 'Talk Through the Day' sessions and towards the end of the week, we had a little (on site) walk to see what can help keep us safe and practiced what we have to do when we want to cross the road.

The children all received a certificate and a high visibility key ring for all their hard work this week.  Well done F2!
