ANCIENT EGYPT Today was the launch of our new History Unit: Ancient Egypt. We had a visitor in school who showed us some real artefacts that were from 3000 years ago. We also played games, took part in a quiz and learned about each stage of mummification and the afterlife. We had the best time. Take a look. :) CRUCIAL CREW Take a look at the year 6 children on their trip to Crucial Crew. We travelled to the LifeWise Centre, in Rotherham, where we completed 8 different scenarios. We learned how to keep safe in different situations and about of the consequences of breaking the law. We had the best day and these are the scenarios that we took part in:
In history, we are studying World War II. We started our first lesson by looking at the key events that happened between 1939 -1945. We researched these events using a range or sources and then placed these on a timeline.WORLD BOOK DAY IT ALL STARTED WITH A BOOK......... After reading the Boy at the Back of the Class, we loved the book so much that we completed two pieces of writing based on two of the characters (Ahmet and Alexa). We even published these online and tagged the author of the book in our post and SHE RESPONDED. However, it didn't stop there because we then found out that this was showing at Sheffield Lyceum and we REALLY wanted to attend. Therefore, we had to do a little fund-raising in order to pay for the coach and the tickets. Soooooooo, we decided, as a year 6 cohort, that we would complete a sponsored run with a shared target of a 100 miles. We had 40 minutes to complete this in and even MRS SANDERSON took part! We managed to run 104.25 miles as a combined total from all the year 6 children that completed it as well as 4.14 miles from Mrs Sanderson therefore we smashed our target. We also managed to raise a staggering £1708.25. We were blown away with how much money we managed to raise and were so proud of all the year 6 children who completed the run. This was not an easy challenge and they were so resilient and determined to meet their target. This meant on Thursday 7th March we were able to attend Sheffield Lyceum and watch The Boy at the Back of the Class. It was amazing! We really did have the best day and we would like to thank all our parents, families and friends who sponsored the children and made this trip possible. The remaining sponsor money that was not spent on the trip, will be spent on the year 6 children at the end of the year as a treat for all their hard work. Take a look at our journey.. VIKINGS!!!! Today we had a Viking Visitor. We had the best day. We played Viking board games, completed a quiz, looked at artefacts, looked at weaponry and reenacted the Battle of Hastings. We loved it. MUSIC This is our second year playing our brass instruments. Have a listen to our version of Last Christmas. CRUCIAL CREW Take a look at our visit to Crucial Crew in Rotherham. We all took part in a number of scenarios in order to keep us safe and to also understand the law. We had a great time and learnt lots at the same time. DT - Textiles In DT, this term, we have been designing, making and evaluating waistcoats. Take a look at our finished products. CLASS 9's ASSEMBLY On Friday morning, it was our class assembly. Take a look at some of the videos that we showed parents as well as a live performance of our synchronised swimming. TT ROCKSTARS DAY with special appearances from Liam Gallagher and Freddie Mercury. We all had a fab day with lots of times table practise and a few rock songs in between all our hard work :) CRUCIAL CREWAll Year 6 children attended Crucial Crew at the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham. We had the best day and learned so much. We took part in eight different scenarios and these were: |
National Space Centre | As we have been learning about Earth and Space in Science, we went to visit the National Space Centre in Leicester. This was the first school trip that many of us had been on since before Covid so it was even more amazing. We all had the best day and we learnt so much more about Earth and Space. The Planetarium was one of our favourites as it was all in 3D and we felt like we were actually in space. Take a look at our photos that show what we got up to at the National Space Centre. |
Greek Salad
Because we have been learning all about Ancient Greece, we researched Greek food, in particular a Greek Salad and the ingredients that are used and why. The children then got the opportunity to taste all of these ingredients and fill out an evaluation form as to what they thought about them (olives didn't prove very popular). The children then designed and created their own Greek Salads trying to use as many ingredients (that was in the traditional Greek Salad) as they possibly could. If the children really didn't like a specific ingredient, they could substitute it. Take a look at our photos.
Greek Headdresses
In history, this year, we have been learning all about the Greeks. During one of our history lessons, we looked at all the different Greek Gods and how they differ and what they are the god of. Then, in one of our art lessons, we had to design and make our own headdresses based on one of the Greek Gods or mythological creatures from Greek Mythology. Take a look at some of our finished products.
