Our Year 6 children had a great afternoon learning all about emergency first aid. Everyone really enjoyed learning what to do if someone was choking or not breathing and gained incredibly valuable life skills.
Once again, my class made me very proud with their fabulous behaviour and contributions in the session.
Thank you to the wonderful ladies who delivered the session.
Super proud of class 8 this week in reading.
Everyone was amazingly supportive, encouraging and resilient in our partner reading session.
I loved seeing how great they were at attentively listening to each other and responding with help if their partners got stuck.
Wonderful work everyone - keep it up!
What a fabulous start to our year together!
Class 8 have shown amazing teamwork and reasoning skills when we sorted adverbials this week.
Keep up the hard word everyone.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, the annual Barnsley Music Festival was unable to take place at the Metrodome. Instead the children joined a virtual festival and even joined in with a piece of music that they had been practising, along with a song they had learnt too. The children also had the opportunity to watch children from other schools perform. We are very proud of our children for their efforts and are also grateful to Mr Lennon who tutors Class 8 every week for Brass and Mr Ramskill who teaches percussion to the our Y6 children.
It is always such a joy to listen to this talented young lady play.
She lights up the room. 😊
We really enjoyed investigating how light travels in science this week. We worked together to change the direction of the light beams using mirrors to direct light around corners towards a 'goal'.
Whole Class Reading
We are really enjoying our whole class reading sessions.
Our favourite day is paired reading where we get to take it in turns to model wonderful reading and help each other out if we get stuck. I loved seeing how focused and encouraging you all were this week; keep up the amazing work everyone!
We read Adrian Mitchell's Poem- Back in the Playground Blues, in our whole class reading this week.
We rehearsed reading it aloud and then arranged the performance read by adding or removing voices to emphasise key words and messages.
We discussed the meaning and related it to our understanding of bullying and how to tackle it should we ever need to.
Take a look at the video below: everyone did a fantastic job.
Wonderful maths work today for our Year 5s We were multiplying by 10 and 100 (which we have been finding tricky until today). Everyone worked so hard and explained their reasoning really well.
Keep it up everyone 😊👍
We have begun writing our diaries this week. We are writing as a child experiencing the Blitz during WW2. I cannot wait to read to finished published diaries because the drafts are looking amazing.
Some of the powerful vocabulary I have seen so far includes:
Everyone is trying their best to create a powerful and captivating atmosphere; I am super excited to read the final versions!
