This half term Class 2 have been learning about how plants grow. We learned that plants need sunlight, water and space to grow successfully.
We planted our own cress seeds and tracked how they grew, observing the changes over 6 weeks. We also learned how to identify wild plants and trees by their petals and leaves outside. In Maths Year 1 have been exploring and identifying the properties of 2d and 3d shapes.
We begun by looking at making patters using 2d shapes that repeated. we then looked at making radiating patterns. Year 1 then looked at the ancient Chinese puzzle called a tangram and how they could use specific shapes to make different images. After that Year 1 looked at 3d shapes, identifying how many faces and vertices they could find as well as what 2d shapes they could see on each face. Continuing our mapping journey, Class 2 have been learning how to use an atlas. We went on a treasure hunt using the index pages at the back to find the different countries and cities of the United Kingdom and the continents and oceans of the world.
Class 2 have been learning about the natural artist Andy Goldsworthy. He uses natural materials found outside to create amazing pieces of art.
Class 2 began by going to our forest area and exploring what materials they could find to use in their own artwork. We then looked at the textures that we could feel on materials both inside and outside school and thought about how we could use them in our own artwork. Keep your eyes peeled for our amazing artwork! |
